Dr. Anbec DeShield

Meet Dr. Anbec M. DeShield! She was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina and is excited about the opportunity to serve her community. Dr. DeShield graduated in 2005 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Chemistry and African Studies. In 2009, she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD) and worked in both private and public health dentistry. In 2015, she completed a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. For the past nine years, she has worked with FirstHealth Dental Care Centers, which is a non-profit dental center located in Southern Pines, Troy, and Raeford that serves the underserved youth of North Carolina. She is an adjunct faculty of UNC-SOD and enjoys mentoring students and new graduates from both UNC-SOD and East Carolina School of Dental Medicine. She has been an active member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS), and Old North State Dental Society since she graduated dental school and believes in the power of organized dentistry. In 2019 she will take office as President of the North Carolina Dental Society Third District.

Her family is from Liberia, West Africa and she hopes to help restore the health care infrastructure of her parent’s native land with her degrees. Aside from dentistry, Dr. DeShield loves to travel, watch movies, and spend quality time with her family and friends!
