Meet Dr. Anbec M. DeShield! She was born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina and is excited about the opportunity to serve her community. Dr. DeShield graduated in 2005 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Chemistry and African Studies. In 2009, she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry (UNC-SOD) and worked in both private and public health dentistry. For the past six years, she has worked with FirstHealth Dental Care Centers, which is a nonprofit dental center located in Southern Pines, Troy, and Raeford that serves the underserved youth of North Carolina. She is an adjunct faculty of UNC-SOD and enjoys mentoring students and new graduates from both UNC-SOD and East Carolina School of Dental Medicine. She has been an active member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS), and Old North State Dental Society since she graduated dental school and believes in the power of organized dentistry.
Dr. DeShield strongly believes in education and is presently working on a Masters of Public Administration with a concentration in Health Care at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke in order to strengthen her leadership skills not only for her practice but for her community. Her family is from Liberia, West Africa and she hopes to help restore the health care infrastructure of her parent’s native land with her degree. Aside from dentistry, Dr. DeShield loves to travel, watch movies, and spend quality time with her family and friends!
